How To Pack everything Into a Carry-On

Packing a Carry-On and only a Carry-On comes with a bit of forethought and sacrifice. If packing isn’t your strength, here are few quick tricks to master the art of packing everything into a Carry-On that will help you shed few pounds from the suitcase.

1. Plan your outfits before you pack

We always lay them out on the floor and match key pieces together and always try them on before packing them. We really don’t want to waste any space on something, just for the sake. Narrow down the key pieces and find a way to combine them for the best result!

2. Be realistic and keep a check on yourself

It’s tempting to pack all kinds of “just in case” items but think about what you’re actually going to use, and pack those things first. Pack only clothes that you like and feel comfortable in. If something doesn’t feel great, you probably won’t wear it; meaning, you’ve wasted valuable suitcase space for nothing. Be realistic about where you’re going and what you’ll need.

3. Roll it Up!

This is one our favorite techniques when it comes to packing compact! Rolling up your clothing saves space and helps to prevent wrinkles. If you roll your clothes, you’ll find that you can fit as much as 20 percent more into your suitcase.

5. Don’t Let an Inch of Space Go Waste

Even when you think your suitcase is full, chances are you can squeeze a few more things in. Example, Stuff socks into your shoes now that’s valuable space in there!

6. Use Compression Bags or Ziploc Bags

If you find that you are still running out of room, consider using some Ziploc bags or compression bags to shrink your clothing. Simply roll  up to squeeze out the excess air. The bonus to packing Ziploc bags is you can also separate the dirty clothing from the clean as you wear them. For us, Ziploc bags come in handy every trip.

7. Wear your bulkiest clothes on the airplane

Wearing your biggest/bulkiest clothes on the airplane. will not only keep you comfortable during your flight (airplanes can be a little cold for us) but it frees up a lot of space in your luggage. Whenever we want to carry a sweater or a jacket, we wear it on the plane instead of packing it. Similarly, we do the same when it comes to packing footwears! Wear your largest shoes or boots on the plane so that they aren’t taking up most of your carry-on.

8. Mix and Match key pieces

If you have a pair of shorts or jeans that work with a few different tops it is best to pack those items to re-wear with different tops. You really don’t need 15 outfits for a weekend getaway. By knowing ahead of time which outfits you plan to wear, you can mix and match your items, and cutting down on the amount of clothes you need to take with you.

9. Pack travel size Toiletories

Take advantage of all those fun sized travel goods since you can carry only 10 – 100ml liquids in your carry-on. Most hotels provide shampoo and conditioner so we tend to pack just a travel size toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrush and some daily cosmetics.

10. Check the weather before you pack

It sounds pretty common sense, but it’s the most important thing you can do. Make sure to check the weather before you go and make your best guess as to which clothing you’ll need. It is pointless to fill half of our suitcase with shorts, if we hadn’t checked the weather and knew it will be cold or windy. Weather.com won’t steer you wrong (most of the time).

11. Take advantage of a “PERSONAL ITEM”

A personal item is basically your second carry-on but smaller in size. It’s the item that fits under the seat in front of you. Try packing a large backpack or large purse full of the items you might use during the flight like passports, documents, camera, laptop, magazines and of course some snacks. It is also my go-to for adding in last minute before leaving.

What is in our bag (For a weekend trip):

Comfort shoes: Sketchers Go-Walk
Denims: 1 shorts and 2 Jeans.
Tops: 5 to 7 comfortable mix n match tops.
Electronics: Ipad, Laptop, Laptop Charger, Camera, Camera Charger, I-phone charger
Accessories: Hat, Sunglasses, Necklace sets and Ear Rings.
Other Essentials: Socks, Underwear, Bathing Suits, toilletories.

Most of all, do not forget to pack your smile and bring home lot of awesome memories!
