Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities in the world. I love its brick buildings, open skyline, rich history, and relaxed, easy going attitude towards life. Amsterdam is a city tied to the water – it grew around its canals and the taming of the Amstel River. The canals of Amsterdam are incredibly beautiful, and there’s nothing like seeing the city from a boat.

Picturesque architecture !

The Rijksmuseum features an extensive Rembrandt collection. Besides Rembrandt, there’s also an incredible and robust collection of other classic Dutch painters. Over one million works of art, craft works, and historical objects are kept in the collection.

Amsterdam is famously known by the world for its coffee shops, where anyone 18 and over can legally buy small quantities of marijuana or hashish and then smoke it right there while enjoying a beverage. But not everyone knows that many of these same Amsterdam coffee shops sell “space cakes,” which are more commonly known as pot brownies or hash brownies elsewhere. If you are one of the many visitors to Amsterdam who are curious about the coffee shop phenomenon, but aren’t crazy about the idea of coughing for 15 straight minutes as you sort out how to get high by smoking, space cakes are the answer. They are legal, cheap, and delicious.

The Red Light District at night, the area becomes awash with drunk, gawking tourists moving slowly down the street as they stare at the girls in the window while going from bar to bar and coffee-shop to coffee-shop. It’s a place to see and experience for a very brief time.
